eDrive™

Fast without Precision is not "Real" Fast!

What is eDrive™?

eDrive™ is Chen Hsong’s electric plasticising system. It replaces the hydraulic motor that drives the screw with an electric servo motor, creating a dual-drive power pack: the hydraulic system handles clamping and injection while the electric servo handles screw rotation independently.

That one change unlocks three things: lower energy during plasticising, faster screw recovery, and the ability to plasticise and open the mould at the same time.

The concept is straightforward. A hydraulic motor draws power from the shared hydraulic circuit, so it competes with every other movement on the machine. An electric servo motor runs independently. It only draws power when the screw turns, it responds faster, and it frees the hydraulic system to do other work in parallel.

Three Advantages

01. Lower Energy

The electric servo motor only draws power when the screw turns. During idle, hold, and cooling phases it consumes almost nothing. Plasticising energy drops by 10 to 25% compared with a hydraulic motor.

Combined with aerogel barrel insulation (which cuts barrel heating energy by 28%), the MK7S achieves China’s highest energy efficiency rating (Level 1).

02. Faster Recovery

A high-torque electric servo drives the screw faster than a shared hydraulic motor can. Screw rotation speed increases by 10 to 40%, which means more material plasticised per second and less time waiting for recovery before the next shot.

03. Parallel Motion

Because the screw has its own drive, it can recover material while the mould is opening or while the robot is picking parts. This is called Recovery-on-Fly. The cycle no longer waits for recovery to finish before the next movement starts, which shortens the total cycle.

The effect is strongest when paired with a valve gate or shut-off nozzle, because these let recovery start immediately after hold pressure ends.

FAQ

01 Does e-Drive™ make the machine fully electric?

No. The machine stays hydraulic for clamping, injection, and ejection. e-Drive™ adds an electric servo motor for screw rotation only, making the plasticising axis electric while the rest of the machine runs on Precision Hydraulics™. For a fully electric machine, see the SPARK AE series.

On a standard hydraulic machine, screw recovery shares the hydraulic circuit with mould opening. They take turns. With e-Drive™, the screw runs on its own motor, so recovery and mould opening happen at the same time. The cycle is shorter by however long recovery would have taken on its own.

On the MK6 PRO and SPEED series, e-Drive™ is a factory option. It is specified at order time. For the MK7S, it is standard equipment on every machine. Contact your Chen Hsong representative for options on other models.

The MK7S barrel is wrapped in an aerogel insulation layer that cuts barrel heating energy by 28%. It works alongside e-Drive but is a separate feature. Together they contribute to the MK7S achieving China’s highest energy efficiency rating (Level 1).
